Description

I was hoping for a brighter day but sadly it wasn’t to be. I began from Great Wood car park at Derwentwater, and headed up through Great Wood. I turned East at Brockle Beck and followed the short steep climb over the moorland to Walla Crag. Pausing to admire the view I headed down a wide path, crossing a couple of streams to Falcon Crag and round to the West of Brown Knotts, down to Ashness Bridge. There were some lovely Autumn colours here. I headed down the road towards the lake but I turned right through a gate up a small path to join a larger path at NY204269. I headed North and returned to Great Wood.

Area : Central Fells

The Vale of Keswick, provides separation from the Northern Fells whilst to the west runs the long valley of Borrowdale. The parallel eastern boundary is created by Thirlmere and the St Johns in the Vale. Grasmere to Windermere forms the remainder of the eastern boundary. In the west, Stake Pass descends into Great Langdale.
