54. Glyder Fawr from Mushroom Garden to Y Gribin. Wind: 20-30mph; weather; fog (50m vis), clearing later, snow & freezing rain; ground: wet, snow (powder) under foot, crampons not required. Skills: Navigation Group: 1 (Wyn Davies) Duration: 5h 30m.
Started from Ogwen Cottage, walked past YHA then direct to Foel Goch scree slope. Up through the Mushroom Garden, To Foel Goch Summit (4in snow), to Y Garn (similar snow depth), Minor nav error in fog started us east, but didn’t feel right, so got the compass out. On to Llyn y Cwn and Glyder Fawr, then used nav counting and compass to find the path to Y Gribin. Carefully down the steep bit at the top, then solid walk back down to the cottage via Llyn Bochllwyd.

Glyderau
The Glyderau (a Welsh plural form, also known in English as the Glyders) are a mountain group in Snowdonia, North Wales. The name derives from the highest peaks in the range, Glyder Fawr and Glyder Fach. According to Sir Ifor Williams, the word "Glyder" derives from the Welsh word "Cludair", meaning a heap of stones.
