24a.(3) Arenigs tour, 2 nights.
Weather: Dry, Clear. Wind: None
Arrived at 9pm. after the walk into Llyn Arenig Fawr, it was dark! Luckily, we found the only 4m square of grass in the mass of heather next to erect the tent with head torches...
Woke with the sunrise, while Ruth took a morning swim in the Llyn. After breakfast, we headed up toward the top of Arenig Fawr. This day turned out to be the hottest of the year so far, exceeding 28degC. It was mitigated slightly by the brisk winds. We ultimately covered 4 different peaks, finishing with a direct heather-bound route to the top of Arenig Fach, followed by a gully scramble down the north side. Set up camp by Llyn Arenig Fach then went to watch the sunset over the Glyders and Snowdon Horseshoe.
Set off in the direction of the remote Nuttalls that Ruth needed to bag. It turned out that the whole route was fairly remote, so it was really a route-march over 11.5 miles of bog and featureless terrain on possibly the second-hottest day of the year (around 27degC) so far! The last part involved circumnavigating Llyn Celyn by road, as the permissive path at Cae-gwernog (SH844418) had been closed to the public.
