Description

Date is approximate. One of my favourite routes in the Dark Peak (which I have done many times now), began at Birchen Clough Bridge (SK109915). I crossed the road and headed South through pine trees to join a path heading West along Saukin Ridge at SK108907. I continued West along the Snake Path to Ashop Head. Here I walked South-South-East along the Pennine Way for about half a mile before heading East along The Edge at SK066899. I followed this path which was easy going with boggy parts and heather, I kept a look out for Grouse too which seem to be in decline, I remembered seeing lots of them as a girl but lately it seems rare to see any. At Fairbrook Naze I headed South to SK094892 then headed North East, following Fair Brook down to Woodlands Valley. Then I turned North West and followed a trail past Rough Bank and Urchin Clough to find a crossing to take me back along Saukin Ridge and return to the car park through the woods.
