Description

Date is approximate. One more of our favourite routes was to catch the bus from Sheffield to Ladybower Inn, then head up via Ashopton onto Whinstone Lee Tor. Then, whilst looking out for a particularly fierce Grouse which we named Fred, we would follow the edge onto White Tor, Salt Cellar, Cakes of Bread (I was always fascinated by the names and shapes of the various boulders!) and Back Tor, before heading West to Lost Lad and down via Green Sitches to Bamford House and joining the reservoir track by Hancock Wood. There were often red squirrels here and all kinds of bird life. In Spring it was lovely to walk along here to see all the Rhododendron in flower. Then it was a simple walk South along the reservoir to the National Park Information centre where we would catch the bus back to Sheffield.
