Description

A wander up Helvellyn with My husband and a novice friend. Crampons were not needed until the summit where it was scoured and icy, with some huge cornices.
Richie was not happy to go down Swirral edge, so I confidence roped him down until he felt happier. We took our crampons off at the footpath, passing a lot of ill equipped people today on the way up.
Striding edge did require crampons, we put them back on once up on the footpath before the ridge starts. The snow was not the greatest condition however there was too much of it to not wear spikes.
Cloud in and out whilst on the ridge gave superb views.
Walked back off the hill to Swirls, the way we went up.

Area : Eastern Fells

From the Kirkstone Pass to the M6.
