From ambleside to high Sweden bridge, a short walk became a longer walk as I decided to use my friend to practice some winter skills.
We headed up to scandale pass, where I practiced pacing, timing, and dug a hasty pit. Snow increased with depth with height up the fell.
The depth increased as such was hip deep in places which we waded through due to me using bearings and wanting to check my timing in these conditions. Huge snow flakes and lots of air in it made for extremely slow going. Timed and paced on a bearing to the summit trig where we were blown about quite considerably by the wind and beat a hasty retreat.
The South ridge of the peak coming down to ambleside had very different snow conditions with lots of hard ice patches with deep drifts. Drifting was very apparent. Equally hard work getting down as getting up.
