Description

25km + 1850m. Loch Mullardoch, Cannich.
GR 102285, shore of Loch Mullardoch end of Gleann a' Choilich (07.40). Worked my way steadily up the ridge to the deleted east top 932m (10.00), continuing along the ridge over Mullach Sithidh (10.15) before reaching the Munro of Mullach na Dheiragain (10.30). The ridge continued with an intermittent path over Carnivore's na Con Dhu (11.10) before reaching Bealach nan Daoine (11.30) where I dropped north west, crossing the stream at GR059236 (12.00) and a lunch break. I continued contouring round heading for Bealach Sgurr na Ceathreamhnan, and across to the main ridge. The ground above Loch an Fhraoich-choire was particularly steep requiring a lot of care and a short section of snow. It was a simple continuation to Stùc Fraoch Choire (13.15) before doubling back to Stùc Mor (14.00) and Stùc Beag (14.20). Once again I cut across the north slopes from the col to the deleted top of Creag nan Clachan Geala (15.00) and a rest before heading back up to the west top and then the summit of Sgurr nan Ceathreamhnan (16.00). Ahead of me was the lovely ridge to the east top (16.30), Stob Coire nan Dearcag (16.45), and Stop Coire na Cloiche (17.00). The final Munro of An Socach (17.45) was soon behind me as I headed to Bealach Coire Ghaidheil (18.25). It was then the long walk back to the tent (20.20) passing areas where the rough grass had been burnt back to encourage new growth.
A long but very satisfying day. A brew was made and food ready by 21.00!

Area : Glen Cannich to Glen Carron

This area covers the peaks north of Loch Mullardoch and south of the A890/A832 Strathcarron to Garve road. The fourteen Munros in the area are handily split into two ridges either side of Glen Strathfarrar and a cluster of five to the north and west of Loch Monar. Sgurr na Lapaich (1150m) and An Riabhachan (1129) are the highest peaks on the southern side while Sgurr a’ Choire Ghlais (1083m) is the tallest on the northern side. Mountains in the list are all about 900m. The area to the south of this is Glen Affric and Kintail.
