Description

6.5km sea kayak, 21km + 1960m, sea kayak 6.5km. Loch Mullardoch, Cannich.
I was up early and had the tent, etc packed away and loaded into the sea kayak (07.00) and headed off to the stalkers hut at the end of Coire Domhain GR156301 (07.55) where it took me twenty minutes to get ready. I found the excellent stalkers path to the west and followed it all the way to Frith an Achaidh Mhoir (10.05) and down to Bealach na h-Eige (10.15). It didn't feel good to loose height dropping to Coire Lochan (11.00), but it was a necessary evil to get out to Beinn Fhionnlaidh (12.00). From there I relaxed and headed to Carn Eige (13.10) only to realise that I had missed out the top of Stob Coire Lochan (13.50) so leaving the rucsac I trudged back down and then back to Carn Eige (14.25) somewhat tired. I then tackled the ridge over Stob a'Choire Dhomhain (14.50), Stob Coire Dhomhnuill (15.20), Sron Garbh (15.35) and the rough descent to An Leth-chreag (14.05). I had a break before talking the final ascent to Tom a'Choinich Beag (16.40) and Tom a'Choinich (16.50). I cut down the north-east ridge 955m before picking up the stalkers path back to the sea kayak (18.30). The path wasn't as good as the one at the start of the day but it made life simpler, especially lower down as it weaved between the small crags. A ten minute turn around and I was off back to the dam (19.40) where I then had the joy of lugging all the kit to the end of the road.
All said a brilliant three days - 8 Munros, 15 tops and 5 deleted summits, very satisfying!

Area : Glen Cannich to Glen Carron

This area covers the peaks north of Loch Mullardoch and south of the A890/A832 Strathcarron to Garve road. The fourteen Munros in the area are handily split into two ridges either side of Glen Strathfarrar and a cluster of five to the north and west of Loch Monar. Sgurr na Lapaich (1150m) and An Riabhachan (1129) are the highest peaks on the southern side while Sgurr a’ Choire Ghlais (1083m) is the tallest on the northern side. Mountains in the list are all about 900m. The area to the south of this is Glen Affric and Kintail.
