Description

This is a walk that I led for The Huddersfield Rucksack Club's trip to the Midi Pyrenees.
The walk started from a tiny hamlet called Ceries near Montferrier.
Walking down the road to the next bend and taking the path going east through some woods before coming out onto the D9.
We then followed the road up to the next bend and then taking the path leading to Montségur, and stopping just below the castle for some food.
We could see the path heading south west and climbing up into the forest below Roc de la Gourgue. We followed this very steep path, eventually coming out into the open approx 100m below the summit.

After walking to the summit, we took a path heading west which was taking us around and below a slightly higher peak, so after instructing the group to continue and wait at a rendezvous point, myself and another group member went up to the top of the higher peak.
The way down was pretty steep, so a bit of a zig zag down the steep sections and back on to the path where we joined the others.
We headed north for a short distance before taking an obvious path dropping down to an old mining quarry and settlement. Carrying on down past a small lake and eventually coming out onto the road, two bends above our start point. There was a path linking the two bends, so we took that so there was only a short walk on to the road back to the cars.
