Description

This was a first for me to the Peak District and I was really looking forward to the journey and the history of this particular route I was walking on. This route was to take me round the”Kinder Scout Mass Trespass Walk” - where in 1932 approx 500 walkers trespassed from Hayfield to Kinder Scout to secure access right to open country for all to enjoy forever...

This trip to Kinder Scout was to accomplish a number of objectives: a recce of the area to take a friend’s son who is autistic and to understand the terrain we will face and whether it is suitable, and to continue improving my navigation (pacing and timing, aligning the map to the land, walking on a bearing).

An excellent walk was to be had, with plenty of learning experiences. I extended the route as I was making good time and wanted to register this route as a QMD - overall the walk was 18.5 km taking just over 5 hours. And most importantly a route that I will be guiding Alex at some point this year.

Area : Dark Peak

Is situated between Sheffield and Manchester. The underlying rock is Millstone grit which is often exposed at the edge of the higher peat bogs for which the area is famous.
