Plan made to ascend to the Cairngorm plateau avoiding slopes that were classed as "Considerable" in the SAIS forecast. We chose the Grade 2 Fiacaill Coire an t-Sneachda.Upon reaching the plateau visibility was very poor so a plan was made to navigate around to spot height 1141 making a wide berth of the cornice and a quick exit to Coire an t-Sneachda! From the 1141 we descended Fiacaill a Choire Chais to the car park.
Area :
The Cairngorms
The Cairngorms are ‘a little piece of the arctic in Scotland’ according to the SMC Munros Guide and the area contains many of the tallest peaks in the East Highlands. Ben Macdui (1309m), Cairn Gorm (1244m) and Braeriach (1296) are probably three of the better known and the whole area is full of steep corries and high plateaux. Access to the mountains is typically from Aviemore or Braemar.
