Marsden to Hadfield. Including Black Hill (582m) and Black Chew Head (542m). Planned walk using OS Explorer OL 1 Map, and then charted on Harvey Peak District North Superwalker XT25. The detail on the OS Map is better for planning. The Harvey Map is easier to follow, thumbing the path as walked. Checked the weather with Mountain Weather Information Service (MWIS) in advance. Weather was close as predicted, though MWIS said clouding but clearing to intense sun. The sky was overcast throughout the day, but no rain or winds, otherwise as predicted. This was new territory I had not previously covered, starting from Marsden (182m). The path was mostly Pennine Way. Started from Marsden Rail Station. Continued on Kirklees Way passing Butterfly Reservoir, Wessendon Reservoir, and Wessendon Head Reservoir. Interesting note for future trips, possibly as leader, there are warning signs for danger at 'Dean Clough" during rain or high water. (Photos below), with an alternate route suggested. Also, strenuous climb from around Dean Clough up to Black Hill Trig Point (582m). Elevation gained from Marsen, 400m. Continued from Black Hill across Moor to Black Chew Head (542m), which is off trail and took some looking to locate the Black Chew cairn which is up among the grouse butts. Used GPS to confirm the exact location (photo attached). Followed Crowden Great Brook back down off the moor to Crowden/ Torside Reservoir. Turned West and followed the reservoirs to Hadfield. Total Distance: 15.72 miles/25.21 km; Total Time: 6 hours, 47 minutes; Total Elevation Gain: 2,162 ft./850 m.
