Shuttlingslow (506m): Started from Macclesfield Rail Station traveling on Public Footpaths to Langley, Bottoms Reservoir, Ridgegate Reservoir, and Trentabank Reservoir to the Trentabank Ranger Station in Macclesfield Forest. Walked forest trails exiting above the tree line onto Piggford Moor. Climbed to the summit of Shuttlingslow at the triangulation pillar. Returned to Macclesfield Forest, taking some different paths back to Macclesfield. Hot sunny day. High of 28C. light breeze. Weather forecasts from MWIS and the Met Office were accurate. Conducted planning and tracking during hike with OS Explorer OL 24, and OS Explorer 268 maps. The 1:25 000 level of detail was needed for micro navigation through the rural farm lands with many trails close together and leading off in different directs. Since this was my first trip from Macclesfiled and through Macclesfield Forest I needed to follow the maps much more closely than I necessary on open moorland. An occasional compass bearing was needed to ensure the trail I was on was headed where I intended. Total Time: 6 hour 4 minutes; Total Distance: 14.55 miles/23.18 meters; Total Ascent: 2,133 ft./880 meters.
