I arranged a weekend on Dartmoor for two friends, and for one of them it was an introduction to backpack camping. We had mixed conditions, some fog and heavy rain mixed in with sun, which gave plenty of opportunity for campass work. We walked predominantly away from footpaths. After the drive down from London we camped in the King's Tor area before exploring the archaeology of Merrivale. We then headed into the Merrivale military range and camped by the upper Cowsic River beneath Devil's Tor. The return to the car was made via White Barrow, Langstone Moor stone circle and Great Staple Tor.
