Night nav onto stony cove pike from the kirkstone pass before bivving for the night in the wind. Beautiful starry night but no moon, so nav proved challenging. Second day we descended the steep path on the east of Stony Cove Pike and ascended the steep path on the west of Thornthwaite Crag, and headed over to high street for lunch. Whilst eating the cloud came in, we walked back the way we came to get back to the car. Fairly impressed with how well I slept considering I woke briefly at 5am to find ice on the outside of my bivi bag.
Area :
Far Eastern Fells
Reaching their highest point at High Street(828 metres) they occupy a broad area to the east of Ullswater and Kirkstone Pass. Much quieter than the central areas of Lakeland they offer in general easier but less exciting walking as the fells merge mainly into the surrounding moorlands. Exceptions however are the fine rock scenery to be seen surrounding the head of Haweswater
