Another walk for my series of hiking guides for people with larger dogs! Using the 1:25000 map. I had my oldest Alsatian with me. I parked near Home Farm and followed the bridleway to Fell Lane which we followed up the hill passing Muncaster Tarn. We visited Hooker Crag and then proceeded across the very boggy Muncaster Fell, passing Ross's Camp and down to Rabbit How, where we turned right and passed through the farm at Muncaster Head. We turned right again and continued in a Westerly direction along the bridleway, passing Parkhouse Moss, High Eskholme where we turned right and headed back up the hill beneath Raw Crag and Chapel Hill to rejoin the original route at Muncaster Tarn. We then returned to the car via Fell Lane.
Area :
Southern Fells (Scafell Pike)
The Southern Fells Include Scafell Pike, the highest peak in England, occupy a broad area to the south of Great Langdale, Borrowdale and Wasdale. High and rocky towards the centre of the Lake District, the Southern Fells progressively take on a moorland character toward the south west. In the south east are the well known Furness Fells, their heavily quarried flanks rising above Coniston Water.
