BMC Northwest 'Peer' Walk from Tegg's Nose Country Park parking lot (SJ 950 733), walk along the Gritstone Trail, through southern portion of Macclesfield Forest, to Shutlingslow (506m), returning through the northern portion of Macclesfield Forest, with a side visit to Forest Chapel (SJ 974 721), back to Tegg's Nose Country Park. This walk was organized by BMC Northwest. We had nine (9) BMC members in a peer walk.
There was a leader from BMC. He knew the intended route, but did not follow a map. Myself and another young man working towards Hill and Moorland Leader tracked the progress of the group. I had printed sections of the walk on individual A4 sized sheets for ease of use on the hill.
Though I had done my own weather assessment and set up the route in OS Maps, because the general route plan was provided by the 'Leader' from BMC I did not consider this a 'Quality' HML Day.
Total Distance: 14.45KM; Total Time: 5 hours 4 minutes.
Area :
White Peak
Lies to the south of the Dark Peak where the underlying rock is limestone - hence the name. Tends to be a little lower in altitude and also may be known as the Derbyshire or Staffordshire Dales.
