NNAS Silver Award Assessment Day with Steve Mycroft of Peak2Mountain Expeditions. Completed the assessment phase of the NNAS Silver award from Edale and the Kinder Plateau. Walks were planned by myself and a peer. We each led our portion of the walk. Route Cards were completed for all legs of the walk, with waypoints identified by six digit grid coordinates, with bearings, timing and pacing, as well as identifying catch features. Portions of the route were off trail and included bounding (Leap frog and caterpillar), and boxing out obstacles. Relocation was done using multiple compass bearings placed on the map (OS OL1 1:25,000).
During the walk we were tested on knowledge of the CROW Act of 2000, weather forecasts, first aid on the trail, contact and communication with Mountain Rescue, local geology, geography and history, as well as ecology, leave no trace.
Total (walking) Time: 4 hours 44 minutes (not counting assessment discussion and testing time); Total Distance: 7.62km
The NNAS Silver Award Assessment was completed successfully.
