Great Glen Expedition: Fort William to Inverness. 100km/65 miles. Monday, August 2 - Friday August 6. Four days on the water. Three nights wild camping at Gairlochy, on Loch Oich, and on Loch Ness. One night (the last night) camping on a camp site at Dochgarroch. Started at Banavie/ Neptune's Ladder, at Fort William. Entered the Caledonian Canal, then Loch Lochy, more Caledonian Canal, then Loch Oich, portaged the locks at Gairlochy, Laggan, and Fort Augustus. Fair weather on Monday and Tuesday. On Wednesday a storm followed us on Loch Ness, with following winds and swells that challenged the gunnels on our fully loaded canoes. Camped early on Wednesday to ride out the heavy rains that went through the night, and then obligingly cleared for the final run up the rest of Loch Ness to Dochgarroch. Friday we packed up and took the bus back to Fort William.
