Description

River Spey Expedition: 110km from Loch Insh in the Cairngorm Mountains National Park to Spey Bay at the sea, with a 400m+ descent. Five (5) days. Day one of pre-journey preparation at Loch Insh on Monday. Began journey on Tuesday. Four (4) days of open canoe journey with three (3) nights wild camping on islands in the Spey. Lots of grade 2 and 2+ rapids, including "The Washing Machine" and "Knockando."

Journey led by Paul Kirtley of Frontier Bushcraft, and Ray Goodwin MBE.

The group included 9 participants. Four boats paddling tandem, and I was paddling solo in my own boat. Ray Goodwin gave me periodic advice and instruction to make improvements in my solo boat handling on moving water and rapids.
