Description

Scafell Pike: Summit 3 of a Lake District 3 Peaks with Explorers Connect and Belinda Kirk.

Not a QML, but a valuable opportunity to see how a well known organization, "Explorers Connect" and Belinda Kirk, organized and managed a large group. There were 20 clients and 4 Explorers Connect staff. However, three clients had taken lame on Day 1 on the route to Skiddaw (the second walk of the day after completing Helvellyn).

Two of these individuals chose not to continue to Day 2, for Scafell Pike. The third decided to make a go, and though they were at the back of the pack, they did complete the walk.

One interesting point was that I have not been one to carry walking poles. They have always seemed more of a hinderance to me personally. However, that third individual was able to complete both the Skiddaw and Scafell Pike walks by barrowing poles from the ML leading the group. I will be carrying them going forward.

Area : Southern Fells (Scafell Pike)

The Southern Fells Include Scafell Pike, the highest peak in England, occupy a broad area to the south of Great Langdale, Borrowdale and Wasdale. High and rocky towards the centre of the Lake District, the Southern Fells progressively take on a moorland character toward the south west. In the south east are the well known Furness Fells, their heavily quarried flanks rising above Coniston Water.
