Hill and Moorland Leader (HML) Assessment - Day 2: Day time navigation assessment. Micro Navigation, mostly off trail, taking bearings and pacing to small features, such a tiny pond shown on the map, which, when located, had no surface water and was not actually visible as the destination unless the bearing and pacing was accurate enough to find yourself on the spot and it is a bit boggier than the surrounding vegetation, or a small reentrant only identified by contours compared to the ground.
All three on our assessment team were accurate with our navigation skills.
Weather was overcast and breezy, but visibility was good.
Approximately 5 hours on the plateau, and then returned to Grindleford to prepare for Night Navigation
Area :
Dark Peak
Is situated between Sheffield and Manchester. The underlying rock is Millstone grit which is often exposed at the edge of the higher peat bogs for which the area is famous.
