Description

2 day wild camp on the summit of ben avon. amazing weather on day 1, parked at the linn of quoich. snow under foot from the start, quite tough conditions with huge soft snow drifts, and hard windswept neve within a couple of footsteps apart.
weather came in much faster than forecast through the night, resulting in abandoning the rest of the plans and struggling against storm force winds to get down at four in the morning, whilst navigating at night. 8 hours to walk out to the car!

Area : The Cairngorms

The Cairngorms are ‘a little piece of the arctic in Scotland’ according to the SMC Munros Guide and the area contains many of the tallest peaks in the East Highlands. Ben Macdui (1309m), Cairn Gorm (1244m) and Braeriach (1296) are probably three of the better known and the whole area is full of steep corries and high plateaux. Access to the mountains is typically from Aviemore or Braemar.
