Description

Elidir Fawr (924m): Continuing to move westward down the Glyderau. Have now reached the far western end. Started from Nant Peris, made the steep climb straight up to Elidir Fawr. The valley and mountain tops were shrouded in fog, cloud and light rain. Ground under foot was wet grass and rock, and boggy in places. The summit is covered in large rock. Reached the summit in cloud with low visibility and windy. There is a rock shelter at the summit. I pulled out my phone to take the first photo of the walk, and found that my phone had stopped working. Which was unfortunate, because to that point there had been no good photo opportunity, but a met another walker in the shelter. The first person I had met on the journey we talked for about 30 minutes, and then the cloud cover cleared. There are spectacular views looking west over the Menai Straight and Anglesey, and down onto the Marchlyn Mawr Reservoir. However. No photos today.

The Glyderau (a Welsh plural form, also known in English as the Glyders) are a mountain group in Snowdonia, North Wales. The name derives from the highest peaks in the range, Glyder Fawr and Glyder Fach. According to Sir Ifor Williams, the word "Glyder" derives from the Welsh word "Cludair", meaning a heap of stones.
