Description

ROUTE: From Bloody Bridge Car Park, on good track and path to meet Mourne Wall. Followed wall NE to Donard summit, then NW to just SW of Commedagh summit, NE to summit, returned to wall then descent via section of Brandy Pad to rejoin outward route.
MEMBERS OF PARTY: With my wife Marion
CONDITIONS: Heatwave conditions! Mid 20s C. Calm or very light breezes. Hydrated fully at the car before starting, but only brought 1 Litre water bottles - very glad to refill in the stream on the descent. Also quick skinny dip to cool down!
DURATION: Elapsed time 6hrs 46mins. 13.28km. 1026m ascent.
SKILLS PRACTISED: Navigation with map. Keeping hydrated!
MOUNTAIN ENVIRONMENT: The unique Mourne Wall - a 7' high drystone wall built of granite boulders! All three mountain heathers in bloom.
KEY LEARNING POINTS/CONTRIBUTION TO EXPERIENCE: Reacquaintance with the Mourne Mountains - in very atypical hot conditions. A reminder to bring enough water on a strenuous summer day.
