From Swindale, parked at end of road, very few people about, up valley and steeply up Birken high knot, here, sat with James I wrote a poem as we looked into the swindale valley and the hills beyond.
This was our first trip post lockdown.
A map clutched firmly in my hands,
Off for an adventure in a hilly playground,
Void of folk, from the busy Lakes,
Just us and nature, we’re exploring this place.
The sound of birds,
And grasses that rustle,
Gone are the busy towns
And the hustle and bustle.
The far away bleat, of sheep.
As they call.
The tumbling water,
From the beck as it falls.
A breeze on our backs,
And the sun in our face,
Feeling at home in the hills
In this beautiful place.
We made it over Selsidevon pathless bracken terrain, over to Branstree and back down the valley between Branstree and Tarn crag, to the car.

Area :
Far Eastern Fells
Reaching their highest point at High Street(828 metres) they occupy a broad area to the east of Ullswater and Kirkstone Pass. Much quieter than the central areas of Lakeland they offer in general easier but less exciting walking as the fells merge mainly into the surrounding moorlands. Exceptions however are the fine rock scenery to be seen surrounding the head of Haweswater
