Mountains:⛰️ Snaefell
On this day I led a hike/jog along the Triskelion Way with Gary Kelly and Jack Freeman. Given the limited mountainous terrain on the Isle of Man, this long day out provided a substantial challenge and meets the criteria for a Quality Mountain Day (QMD).The route covered 64.72 km with an ascent of 1907 m, including a summit of Snaefell, the highest point on the island. We carried full kit throughout the day, navigating a mix of terrain in partially cloudy weather and moderate wind. The conditions added to the physical demands of the route, requiring careful management of pace and energy. The day was both physically and mentally challenging, with extended periods of sustained effort, particularly during the ascent and descent of Snaefell. As the leader, I was responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of the group while maintaining a steady pace. This QMD was an excellent opportunity to practice leadership, navigation, and endurance, all while enjoying the beautiful but demanding terrain of the Isle of Man. Despite the island's limited mountainous options, this long, challenging day in the hills provided the necessary elements to qualify as a Quality Mountain Day.
