Day 3 of our week in Scotland. With 50 mph winds forecast we went for Gardh gully so we didn't have to top out and would have a bit of protection from the wind.
With a mixture of ice pitches and rock hard snow today was hard work and except for one spike was protected with ice screws, a first for me. White out on top so used the gps to ensure we didn't turn off the top to early on the descent. Another great route and learning opportunity.
Rest day tomorrow so sort kit then climbing wall before heading to the pub for something other then flap jack and warm fruit tea.
Area :
Ben Nevis and Carn Mor Dearg
Ben Nevis is certainly the biggest and most famous winter climbing ground in Scotland, with something for everyone from the debutante to the most experienced and skilled. The almost alpine grandeur of the north face can, in a good winter, transform into a world where climbable snow-ice forms at almost every angle. It provides climbs suitable for any stage of the winter, from early season snowed-up rock climbs to late season ice wall specials. Also included here are the small number of winter climbing opportunities on the neighbouring Carn Mor Dearg.
