Initial descent to La Grave & over a wooded shoulder to Villar d'Arene, up beside the Romanche river to Pont d'Arsine. As we walked up the tighter upper valley we met cyclists engaged in a 'Raid', sharing our narrow path. Also a Dad with 2 small boys. A marmot unafraid, & on to soup lunch at the Refuge de l'Alpe de Villar Arene. (Dad & kids turned up surprisingly soon). On over the col d'Arsine & down by turquoise lakes, with many day trippers, to the woods & Le Casset. Spent a weary half hour looking for Gite le Flourou in a busy Monetier les Bains.
