Day 3. Plan was to attempt to journey to Cairngorm summit, trying to outrun the incoming weather, alas it was not to be.
Before reaching the ptarmigan the weather deteriorated significantly, so we taught emergency shelter digging and bucket seats should they need to know if on a steep slope and have to stop. Very cold and rain and sleet arriving we headed of the hill a bit earlier returning the way we came, up windy ridge. Goggles used everyday this weekend.
Incorporated navigation into today, and doing everything whilst keeping gloves on.
Area :
The Cairngorms
The Cairngorms are ‘a little piece of the arctic in Scotland’ according to the SMC Munros Guide and the area contains many of the tallest peaks in the East Highlands. Ben Macdui (1309m), Cairn Gorm (1244m) and Braeriach (1296) are probably three of the better known and the whole area is full of steep corries and high plateaux. Access to the mountains is typically from Aviemore or Braemar.
