Description

The day started overcast with a hint of rain in the air and I decided to do my walk clockwise to keep the wind at my back whilst on the summit. I started from Mungrisedale and headed up by the River Glenderamackin before heading up the bridleway beneath The Tongue. As I climbed it started snowing, which became heavier as I climbed, with visibility being severely reduced by the time I reached the col. The wind was very strong with low visibility and icy snow, falling torrentially on the summit. Considerable wind chill. I headed onto the summit of Bowscale Fell before dropping down to Tarn Crags Top and then down to Bowscale Tarn. As the weather was deteriorating further, I followed the main track to the road and then the road back to Mungrisedale.

Area : Northern Fells

Generally this is the area to the north of the A66 which runs from Penrith to Cockermouth and the town of Keswick.
