Description

Start: Spittal of Glenmuick NO 31062 85199
Distance: 16k
Duration: 7 hours
Direction: More or less direct W following track then path round to Cac Carn Beag (Lochnagar); return same way
Description: Main track at first then steep climb above Lochnagar loch (although path has been improved) then to summit into thick clouds. Group walk with relatives and friends - I was asked to keep an eye on them as most were 75+ however they were not very keen on following my advice not to drink too much whiskey (as they had brought some up to celebrate one of them birthday) and were a bit merry after - needed to be more careful of the rocky path! Learning Point (LP): be clearer about my role; Mountain leadership qualification would help prove this when leading experienced others.

Area : Braemar to Montrose (Lochnagar)

Listed in the SMC Munros Guide as ‘The East Mounth: Glen Shee to Mount Keen’, this area includes all of the peaks to the south and east of the A93. Still part of the Cairngorms National Park, these mountains are home to the north facing crags on Lochnagar (1155m) and the most easterly Munro, Mount Keen (939m).
