Coaching for Apex Climbing Coaching.
3 sessions with 3 different clients.
Firstly a youth climber Rose, who is a very accomplished climber. She is very good on vertical to just off vertical terrain and needed more confidence in very steep roof climbing. I therefore focussed the session around probing what she thinks a fall will be like and then practicing falling from different parts of the roof to get a feel for it. We then tackled a project she had outstanding through the roof which she made progress on.
Secondly was Luke, a GB paraclimber with cerebral palsy which affects his right side. He wanted to work on some movements that he struggled with on his project, also on steep terrain. I felt he was rushing a movement which was very bouldery for him and I encouraged him to slow down his pace and take a moment to muster up some more power through his breathing rate. We then later looked at the converse breathing rate when tackling a tough corner route which required more balanced and considered breathing.
Lastly was Kev, an adult private client who is operating around F7c. His session was focussed around easier routes requiring unfamiliar techniques and holds he tended to avoid at a more amenable grade. Although he didn't top the route in question he made significant gains and was able to rest much more fully in some testing positions.
