Description

Start: Birks Bunkhouse SD 23048 99128
Distance: 10k
Duration: 6 hours
Direction: SW to Wormshell How then circle round N then NE up Harter Fell, then ESE to Birks. Some meandering on the way, looking at forestry features.
Description: ODL Outdoorlads hostel weekend looking at forestry restoration - including active work planting on the hillside. Leader also knew a lot about the history and could point out Roman baths remains up here on the hillside and other features in the landscape - making an interesting walk and something I will seek to do.

Area : Southern Fells (Scafell Pike)

The Southern Fells Include Scafell Pike, the highest peak in England, occupy a broad area to the south of Great Langdale, Borrowdale and Wasdale. High and rocky towards the centre of the Lake District, the Southern Fells progressively take on a moorland character toward the south west. In the south east are the well known Furness Fells, their heavily quarried flanks rising above Coniston Water.
