Six returning ladies, keen to use previous years learnings in winter and journey out. We opted for a round of the Northern Corries.
The visibility above 900m was zero. Even having to check my feet when placing them down. A real good white out. Upon reaching the summit of Cairn Lochan, a discussion with the ladies that they were happy to return the way we came rather than stay high in these conditions. They were all really happy to experience this and wanted to do some b=navigation to practice for themselves.
The return leg I gave them some further instruction ready for the following day that was to be a navigation exercise.
11.5km 6 hours.
Area :
The Cairngorms
The Cairngorms are ‘a little piece of the arctic in Scotland’ according to the SMC Munros Guide and the area contains many of the tallest peaks in the East Highlands. Ben Macdui (1309m), Cairn Gorm (1244m) and Braeriach (1296) are probably three of the better known and the whole area is full of steep corries and high plateaux. Access to the mountains is typically from Aviemore or Braemar.
