Expedition: Hunt for Hadrian's Wall - May-Saa and Orran's Journey Across the Country (Morecambe to South Shields)Description:
This 250-mile cycling expedition from Morecambe to South Shields was an adventure filled with challenging weather and terrain. Over three days, we faced constant rain, poor visibility, and strong winds, making the journey both physically and mentally demanding. We camped at a managed campsite on the first night, arriving after midnight in pouring rain. Setting up the tent in the dark and rain was challenging, but we managed and got some sleep before an early start the next day. The ride through the Lake District to Ravenglass was the highlight, with beautiful, albeit rainy, scenery. The stretch from Ravenglass to Carlisle, however, was particularly tough, with persistent rain, wind, and rough, run-down coastal areas that made for a miserable ride.We originally planned to wild camp on the second night but decided against it due to concerns about the security of our bikes. Instead, we continued cycling through cold and rainy conditions until we found a farm field that allowed campers. After securing permission with a quick phone call, we set up the tent in the rain and endured a wet night. Packing up in the rain the next morning, we pushed on through strong headwinds and relentless rain all the way to Carlisle, where we stopped for a much-needed lunch break. The final stretch from Carlisle to South Shields was a bit more forgiving, with better roads and scenery. Although we arrived late in the evening, cold and exhausted, there was a sense of accomplishment after completing such a tough journey. The expedition tested our resilience and adaptability, especially in such challenging conditions.
