Working For Scottish Rock and Water
2 day winter skills course based in the cairngorms.
Day 1 - spent in the back of sneachda, starting on the ice by goat track and moving to mess of pottage and the up windy col to 1141, where we experienced very strong wind, which made for a excellent experience after spending all day looking and moving in crampons.
Day 2 - starting the day in the cafe looking at navigation and planning our day, we then started walking out towards lochan and going up some slightly steeper ground before the twin burns, summiting lochan and around to cairngorm and down 1141.
Better weather with lower winds.
Area :
The Cairngorms
The Cairngorms are ‘a little piece of the arctic in Scotland’ according to the SMC Munros Guide and the area contains many of the tallest peaks in the East Highlands. Ben Macdui (1309m), Cairn Gorm (1244m) and Braeriach (1296) are probably three of the better known and the whole area is full of steep corries and high plateaux. Access to the mountains is typically from Aviemore or Braemar.
