Description

Working for Scottish Rock and Water
2 day winter skills course based in the cairngorms.
4 clients
Day 1 - spent in the moraines and the ice below goat track, after a morning and quite a bit of the afternoon working on skills we then went up the goat track. Snow conditions were stable and the snow was not bullet hard neve which made it manageable. the final steep section I led the clients through this one at a time which me directly behind them. there were bit steps and easy to follow, but i positioned myself behind them to prevent any fear of exposure.
Day 2 - Navigation and planning for the first hour of the day in the cafe, Ciste Meridith and up onto cairngorm and around to the top of y gully and decent down 1141.

Area : The Cairngorms

The Cairngorms are ‘a little piece of the arctic in Scotland’ according to the SMC Munros Guide and the area contains many of the tallest peaks in the East Highlands. Ben Macdui (1309m), Cairn Gorm (1244m) and Braeriach (1296) are probably three of the better known and the whole area is full of steep corries and high plateaux. Access to the mountains is typically from Aviemore or Braemar.
