Description

Bronze Assessment expedition day 2 planned by the participants. An early start with a protracted breakfast and cooking lunch for food-flasks. The participants crossed farm fields to Brock Mill Lane and - remote observation - then again (more fields) to Snape Rake Lane before climbing to Beacon Fell Country Park and - remote observation - making their way to the summit for an agreed meet. Further to descending through more farm fields, the exit took them East along Oakenclough Road before turning northwards through more fields to Bleasdale Lane, which was followed to Winsnape Brook, exiting via Waddecar Scout Camp footpath, crossing the brook (footbridge) then north along Delph Lane before turning west back across farm fields to the camp. Time was pressing on the return and luckily the tents had been dropped during the protracted start. A good outing in the available time, if a little pressured, suggesting some conservation of distance / time estimate would have improved matters. The group was competent despite the loss of their strongest navigator to injury.

Area : South and Western Pennines including Forest of Bowland

Excluding Yorkshire and the Dales and the Peak District.
