Leg 1 of my Ultra Trail Snowdonia (UTS) route, focusing on some of the most iconic and challenging summits in the Snowdon area. The day started with clear skies and excellent visibility, ideal conditions for a long solo mountain day.The ascent was demanding, with steep climbs up to Pen yr Ole Wen (978 m) and Carnedd Dafydd (1,044 m), both offering spectacular views across the surrounding peaks. The weather remained favourable throughout the day, with a gentle breeze keeping things comfortable as I pushed on to Carnedd Llewelyn (1,064 m), the highest point on this leg.The ridgeline between Carnedd Dafydd and Carnedd Llewelyn was particularly stunning, with clear skies offering uninterrupted views. Pen yr Helgi Du (833 m) provided a bit of a challenge with its rocky ascent, but it was manageable with careful footing. The descent was memorable, I remember the silence and only hearing a light breeze and my breath as I absorbed the incredible sunset that painted the sky in vivid colors. As I descended from the Carneddau, the setting sun cast long shadows over the valleys, making for a breathtaking end to a tough but rewarding leg.

Glyderau
The Glyderau (a Welsh plural form, also known in English as the Glyders) are a mountain group in Snowdonia, North Wales. The name derives from the highest peaks in the range, Glyder Fawr and Glyder Fach. According to Sir Ifor Williams, the word "Glyder" derives from the Welsh word "Cludair", meaning a heap of stones.
