The first day of the West Highland Way involved a challenging journey from Milngavie to Auchtertyre, covering around 80 km. The weather was clear and sunny, making for excellent visibility but also requiring careful management of hydration and sun exposure. The day included a variety of terrains, including the flat sections early on and more rugged paths leading up to Auchtertyre. The ascents and descents were substantial, testing endurance and pacing strategies. This segment was marked by the gradual buildup of fatigue, especially as the day progressed and the terrain became more demanding. The trail was very technical along the bank of Loch Lomond, this was my favourite part of the route.
