Description

Introduction to Navigation course
1 participants.
Clear, but cold.
The participant struggled with the various navigational skills, but after some hands on tasks, their confidence quickly grew.
They created an appropriate route that lead north around the outer perimeter of the Forest boundary, eventually exiting the woods and heading west towards Cutworth Farm. About 1 km West from the Farm they turned south, heading towards the Alton Barnes White horse feature. Here we had lunch and then headed ENE up Knapp hill towards St Nicholas Church before turning North and returning to West Woods.
Issues: The cold and pacing. Because of the temperature and the exposure of the downs, the participant struggled to maintain pace. Meaning that they had to adapt their route to ensure that they would make it back to the start before the course ended. They were able to identify short cuts in their navigation and successfully navigate them to return back to the start, showing great confidence and understanding of how to navigate competently.
