DESCRIPTION OF ROUTE:
Mountain Month Day 14, Today we Looked at micro Navigation and Night Navigation, The weather was very windy today with gust hitting 80mph around the Snowdon massif, the plan wasn’t to go high but to really focus on navigation and dissecting the map. We started at pen y pass just after mid-day and headed up the miners track. We marked certain spots on the map and made are way across, Carreg Gwalch, The Horns and over to Bwlch Y Moch. We each made a plan of which we would follow to each point, including timings, pacing’s and bearing, and also described our thinking between the points following the 5D’s (Danger, Distance, Direction, Duration and Detail). This was great practice and was good to bounce of each other with different ideas and to help each other’s thinking. We practiced this about 12-15 times and then retreated back to the hostel for a warm drink before heading out into the dark. The wind had picked up by the time it was dark and we headed out around the back of the hostel and around Llyn Cwmffyyynnon, We repeated what we learnt and practiced in the morning and by the end of the day where feeling really confident in our abilities, We had parked a car down in one of the lay-bys on the A4086 and retuned back to the car just after 8:30pm.
