Description

Couldn`t park at the hotel due to a wedding so had to park about 1km from road at 102707.
Dalmunzie hotel, Glen Lochs farm (easy to miss track through the gate), railway (remnants of track), Glenlochsie Lodge (ruined with a dying roof). Breac-reidh, Glas Tulaichean 1051, east ridge, Sron na Saobhaidh into Glas Coire Mhor. River crossings in valley a bit interesting but not too bad. Descended valley, recrossed at poor bridge near hotel (bridge is just about standing and is wonky. Bashed down road to car which had access via a small gate through the woods at the hotel.
Very icy on paths, sheet ice that was hard to see at times. Snow soft. Poor visibility in cloud (above 700m). Made some difficult route choices especially coming off the ridge where navigation was difficult in the cloud and error = death by falling over big cliffs of doom. In the valley, mostly tracks.
Forecast for 50-60mph winds and 80mph gusts. Actual was 25mph winds but 60mph gusts on descent from summit.
Tested out MR Paramo soft shell. Love it.

Listed in the SMC Munros Guide as ‘The East Mounth: Glen Shee to Mount Keen’, this area includes all of the peaks to the south and east of the A93. Still part of the Cairngorms National Park, these mountains are home to the north facing crags on Lochnagar (1155m) and the most easterly Munro, Mount Keen (939m).
