Description

A group of 15 mates set out today with a tall order of two munros in a less than convincing forecast. four members of the group who are much quicker, very soon broke off from the main group, and those that were left were less experienced other than myself.
the winds were strong enough to cause a little difficulty but nothing worrying. strong south westerly, but bitterly cold.
roughly around 600m, visibility disappeared, eventually leading to white out conditions. from the subsidiary summit to the main top a bearing was required for the 300 metres across the ridge.
a unainimous decision to return via the ascent route due to zero visibility, and a cautionary decision about the descent route from the second munro possibly being less than safe was very much the correct one as the conditons deteriorated further.
got a hand shake from a friend at the bottom thanking me for guiding them up and down the hill safely, and until that point I never really realised how much I was leading the walk. very rewarding to have that kind of feedback even from people I know.

Area : Loch Eil to Glen Shiel

The Great Glen to the east, the A87 to the north and the A830 to the south separate this area from its surroundings and enclose an area of high mountains and low glens. The highest mountain is Sgurr na Ciche (1040m) and further north the South Glen Shiel Ridge is formed by a whopping seven Munros! Also in the area is The Saddle (1010m) which is home to the classic Forcan Ridge. Peaks in the mountains list are all above 900m.
