Description

Started from the bottom of Hard Knott pass on Friday at 5pm. Walked to Allen Crags up the east side of the Esk, arrived at about 9pm & camped overnight. Next morning summited Glaramara, then returned to Allen Crags and dropped down to the west, picking up the Corridor Route to Scafell Pike. Considered Scafell, but didn't feel confident in the poor visibility so descended to the Esk Valley. Cold and wet through (thanks to persistent rain) I considered a second wild camp but thought better of it. Couldn't cross Esk due to now excessive water. Returned south via Scale Gill Fall and arrived at parking by 4pm.

Area : Southern Fells (Scafell Pike)

The Southern Fells Include Scafell Pike, the highest peak in England, occupy a broad area to the south of Great Langdale, Borrowdale and Wasdale. High and rocky towards the centre of the Lake District, the Southern Fells progressively take on a moorland character toward the south west. In the south east are the well known Furness Fells, their heavily quarried flanks rising above Coniston Water.
