I worked with/under Stuart when he was coördinating the safety teams of a 250km (60 hours) navigation race in heavy winter conditions on the hills & woods of the Belgian Ardennes. He was very professional and proved to be a capable leader coördinating safety teams over a very large area. Both the race directors and the participants that ended up being rescued speak very highly of him and he has performed the same role several more times since then. It was obvious to me that Stuart has extensive experience and thorough understanding of difficulties in mountainous terrain in winter conditions. His leadership style and people skills quickly forged a working team out of a selection of people that had never met each other before diving into 3 days and 3 nights of frantic activity. I gladly vouch for Stuart's abilities as a mountain leader and manager.

I have worked with Stuart on event mountain safety teams for both the Montane Spine Race and Ranger Ultras, ultra marathon mountain running races. Stuart's kind and friendly manner immediately puts clients and colleagues at ease. He is a highly organised individual with attention to detail, this shines through in his reliable and sound mountaineering judgement. When working as the Spine Race Mountain Safety Co-ordinator he is a very approachable and no problem however significant fazes him, his cool head allows him to work under immense pressure. He maintains the highest standards when with clients and represents the race organisation(s) with integrity. I have no hesitation in recommending Stuart and his skills as a Mountain Leader.
