Outlook Expeditions - Leader Team Training (2 days) | 24/01/2020 | 1.00 |
I grew up watching Discovery Channel and National Geographic, always wanting to live that sort of life but never thinking it would be possible. But one day I thought everybody has to start somewhere so that what I did.
During the last two years at Teesside university on a completely non-outdoor Ed related course I got a job as a climbing instructor, discovered a passion for teaching people about the areas I'm passionate about. So alongside my dissertation I did both my training and assessments for my mountain leader, single pitch award and still got a First class honours degree and then went from there. I finished uni and went straight into being a freelance outdoor instructor. That winter (13/14) I did my winter mountain leader training and completed my assessemnt in March 2015.
My mountain training awards have taken me all over UK as well as overseas such as the Alps and Romania was working as an expedition leader. They've allowed me to meet some great people; both clients and other instructors, as well as work for some great companies such as National Geographic adventure and others. I am only just starting my career in the outdoors and I can't wait to see where it leads me.
I have known Alex for a number of years, and we have had the opportunity to spend time in the mountains together both personally and professionally. Alex is safe, competent and passionate about what he does, and this does not change whether he is out personally or in a professional capacity. I pleasure to work with and a great guy to share some awesome experiences with!

Relationship
Alex has an excellent sense of what is required to take groups of people into the UKmountain areas and is aware of all the hazards associated with this. He has developed a strong sense of ambition in leading others and has matched this with high levels of performance. He has a good rapport with individuals and groups alike and knows how to deliver a quality day encompassing fun, safety and achievement. I have no reservations in recommending him for the Winter Mountain leader Training.

Relationship
I have known Alex for a number of years in a number of different contexts; both as a mountaineering partner, colleague and employer. I have worked on a number of guided walks and expedition training events with alex as a colleague but I have also called upon his services as an employer on a number of occasions where he has been put in sole charge of leading groups on charity events such as 3 peaks challenges and teaching/assessing on a range of navigation courses. Alex's knowledge is above and beyond the remits of his current qualifications, and it is this vast knowledge of the mountain environment that puts him top of the list when it comes to selecting a leader that can successfully enthuse groups in the mountains. This knowledge backed up by his calm, cool and collective manner makes him a perfect leader for working with groups safely in the mountains!
