Following the success of our 2022 Women in Mountain Training conference and as part of our continued Gender Equality Strategy; we are excited to be hosting the 2024 conference at Outward Bound Ullswater in the Lake District, on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd November 2024.
The conference is open to women and gender minorities at any stage of their Mountain Training journey.

A session to set the conference off on a positive and motivating note, hosted by two people who have successfully set up inclusive community groups or events talk us through their inspiration, why they felt it was necessary, how they got the ball rolling, where they are now and their hopes for the future.
Whole conference workshop 2: Tackling discriminatory behaviour
Aneela McKenna
A brief overview of some historic reasons why outdoor adventure has some uncomfortable norms followed by a practical guide to managing awkward situations which can arise. How should you respond if you feel uncomfortable on a course, within a group, with a customer or just going about your day on the hill? As a leader, what is your responsibility in these situations? Many people in the room will have significant experience, so the session should draw on your own experiences.
Evening talk: Women’s Hormone lifecycles & sustainable careers
Natalie Brown
This sessions aims to explain and discuss the various stages of the female lifecycle and how they can impact on work as an adventurous activity leader. Strategies for managing changes throughout the lifecycle, minimizing any negative impacts and maximizing opportunities. Possible areas of discussion: Understanding hormones & their changes, puberty, managing menstruation on expedition, pregnancy, perimenopause and menopause, post-menopause, medical considerations and how to manage these in various types of adventurous activity work.
This conference needs a minimum of 40 bookings to run. Attendees will be notified of cancellations or changes to the conference 2 weeks before the date of the workshop. Attendees will receive a full refund.
If you are unable to attend the conference, please let us know as soon as possible. If cancellations are received up to 6 weeks before the conference you will receive a full refund; less than 6 weeks but more than 4 weeks before the conference: 50% refund; less than 4 weeks before the conference: no refund will be issued.
